Dr Muhidin joined Macquarie University in January 2011 as a lecturer in Demography at the Faculty of Business and Economics. Previously he was appointed as Postdoctoral and ResTeach Fellows at Queensland Centre for Population Research, the University of Queensland. He was involved in both research and teaching roles, especially with the Department of Human Geography for the last five years. Dr Muhidin came to Australia with a wide-ranging international experience, including placements in North America (Brown University and University de Montreal), Europe (Groningen University and IIASA-Austria), and Asia (University of Indonesia). Dr Muhidin is a demographer by training from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He has actively been working on the study of population mobility issues and its consequences in different settings such as Asia (Indonesia), West Africa (Burkina Faso and Ghana) and Australia. Recently, Dr Muhidin involves in the study of international comparative analysis on internal migration. Early results of this study have contributed to the background research papers for the 2009 Human Development Reports, UNDP.
